Arijit Singh was crowned the king of Hindi music and his numbers topped charts for weeks together. Arijit Singh was one of the participants of singing reality show called Fame Gurukul (2005). Surprisingly he could not even get a foothold among the Top 5. Although, Arijit was one of the most loved singers on the show, he ended up at 6th position. Shankar Mahadevan, one of the judges in the show had called Arijit Singh as one of the best singers on the show and had promised to give him work, a promise which he actually honored after the show.
Subsequently, he went on to win a reality show called 10 ke 10 le gaye dil. Shankar Ehsaan Loy gave Arijit the first break in one of their songs called “All For One” from High School Musical 2 album. He also sung the song “Hum Hai Deewane” of the Indian daily soap Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon and “Dadagiri” featuring Sourav Gangully. He has also sung the title track of Bengali television serial “Tomay Amay Mile” with Ujjaini Mukherjee.
Initially, there was a little confusion regarding which song Arijit Singh debuted with as a playback singer. He cleared that in another interview that it was actually ‘Phir mohabbat…’ from Murder 2, which he had sung way back in 2009, two years before the song actually released. Arijit admitted to have forgotten about the song and that it was a friend of his who told him that the song had released.
Once while giving an interview to Forbesindia.com, Arijit Singh confessed that he did not join the world of music with an intention of becoming famous but it was his genuine love for singing and a passion for music that bought him to the industry.

Arijit is a down to earth and grounded person and that reflects in his lifestyle. Once in another interview he was asked if he had bought himself a car with the first paycheck, to which he had responded, “Car? What car? I still don’t have a car. I still travel by public transport. I take autos to travel to and fro for recordings. When in Calcutta, I take a train to go to Murshidabad and then take a cycle rickshaw to my house.”

Much before making a foray into Bollywood as a playback singer, Arijit Singh worked as a music programmer for noted music directors of Bollywood including Pritam Chakraborty, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Vishal-Shekhar and Mithoon. He would sing scratch versions of various songs during his days of working with Pritam. The music director eventually gave a number of opportunities to Arijit in the various films he was working on.
